Current Events
December 2010 and January 2011 was a sad time for the Club, in that we lost three of our longest serving and much respected members. Robert (Bob) Cable. Died just before Christmas 2010. Bob was an avid Fisherman, Beachcomber and Detectorist. He was also a wonderful storyteller and would often have his listeners in stitches. Much missed by his wife Harriet, his children and Grandchildren, and his friends in the Club..
Peter (Pete) Brayley Died not long after Bob and as with Bobs death, was a great shock to us all. Peter worked as a foreman gardener with Swansea City Council for most of his working life and had not long retired. Pete was a bachelor and had a great love of the outdoors.
On the day of Peter’s funeral we lost our 3rd. member, Audrey Mathers. Audrey was our oldest member (83) and out of the three was the longest serving. Her late husband Ken who predeceased her by a number of years was also a respected member of the Club and had served on the Committee a number of times. I, (Dave Hughes. Club Sec) will personally miss Audrey very much, I used to enjoy sitting with her at her home, chatting over a cuppa, putting the world to rights.
March 30th. 2011 saw the Clubs A.G.M.
The Club Treasurer reported a healthy Bank Balance.Ken Daniels stood down as Chairman and Gloria Sanders was voted into that position, she also retained the post of Sites Officer with Carol Phillips as her assistant..
Ron Sanders was re elected as Vice Chairman.
Dave Hughes was re elected as Secretary.
Dave Kissick was re elected as Treasurer
Peter Jones was re elected as Minutes Secretary
John Jones was re elected as Club Librarian.
At this time Sept. 2011 the Club has 85 members.
Inter Club Rally - September 2011
This years Inter Club Rally between Swansea and the Redditch Historical Research Society was a great success in that everything went off smoothly, except for the weather, lack of good finds, plenty of aluminium etc.
Only two hammered coins were found, one each, but ours was not there for the judging, but I don't think it would have made much difference. Redditch WON again and they only had 12 detectorists to our 36 over the weekend. Something wrong somewhere.
150 tokens were buried for this Rally......66 were found.
The food (BBQ, Chilli,Curry and Rice and Baked potatoes) went down well, there was no waste. What was left over from Saturday night was cooked for an impromptu BBQ for Sunday lunch.
The Saturday night Social Gathering was excellent and the party games organized by Dave and Carol, along with Glorias help ,went
down a treat and had everyone laughing and joining in the fun. In my opinion was the best Interclub Rally so far, despite the lack of finds and the fact that we lost. Theres always next year to get it back..
Thanks go to Steve Sell for coming to us on Sunday afternoon to judge the finds despite the awful weather (High wind and rain). Thanks to everyone that took a hand in holding the Marquee down in that wind, don't think we would have got thru the Raffle and Token Hunt prize giving without them.
Dave and Carol provided the Marquee for the weekend and apologies go to them for the damage caused to it by the weather, and thanks to everyone that stayed behind at the end to help clean up the Marquee area and get the Marquee down without further damage.
