December 2010 and January 2011 was a sad time for the Club, in that we lost three
of our longest serving and much respected members.
Robert (Bob) Cable. Died just before Christmas 2010. Bob who was in his mid 70s’ was an avid Fisherman, Beachcomber and Metal Detectorist. Bob was one of the longest serving members of the Swansea Metal Detecting Club. He was a wonderful storyteller and would often have his listeners in stitches. Much missed by his wife Harriet, his children and Grandchildren, and his friends in the Club..
Peter (Pete) Brayley Died not long after Bob and as with Bobs death, was a great shock to us all. Peter who was 67, worked as a foreman gardener with Swansea City Council for most of his working life and had not long retired. He was a bachelor and had a great love of the outdoors. Pete’s dry sense of humour and knowledge of Metal Detecting will be missed by us all.
On the day of Peter’s funeral we lost our 3rd. member, Audrey Mathers. Audrey was our oldest member (83) and out of the three was the longest serving. Her late husband Ken who predeceased her by a number of years was also a respected member of the Club and had served on the Committee a number of times. I, (Dave Hughes. Club Sec) will personally miss Audrey very much, I used to enjoy sitting with her at her home, chatting over a cuppa, putting the world to rights. The family name will live on in the Club as her son Roy is a well established detectorist with some good finds under his belt.
